In addition to discussing the Blues’ summer acquisitions and delivering a message to Todd Boehly, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has acknowledged that the Spanish powerhouses are huge fans of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Following Thibaut Courtois’ injury, Ancelotti teamed up with Kepa last season when the Chelsea goalkeeper came to Madrid on a one-year loan.
Although Kepa ended up joining Courtois in the treatment room, where Andriy Lunin emerged as the team’s temporary No. 1, Kepa went on to maintain nine clean sheets in 20 appearances for Madrid. Since Courtois is back playing, Lunin knows he won’t be starting as much, and he has been linked to leaving Real Madrid.
Kepa’s Route Back to Real Madrid will happen if Lunin leaves
Kepa Arrizabalaga, a star player for Chelsea, may not end his career at Stamford Bridge by returning to Real Madrid quickly. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti feels the Champions League winners have plenty of goalkeeper options, and he has downplayed suggesting a path back to the Bernabeu.
Lunin may yet leave in search of more first-team playing time, but Real would need to pay at least €25 million to secure his departure. It seems that Kepa will not be able to fulfil his desire to return to Madrid while he is still there.
“We love him,” Ancelotti said to GIVEMESPORT prior to Los Blancos’ friendly match against Chelsea in Charlotte. Although we adore him, we are covered in that situation. Kepa had a great season the previous one. He was in our company. Although his presence made us very joyful, we are unsure of what this season will hold.”
