Real Madrid has been considering their possibilities to bolster the centre-back position this summer ever since they were unable to recruit Leny Yoro. The name Aymeric Laporte, who is playing at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, seems to be making the rounds.
The 30-year-old appeared in the Spain team that won the UEFA Euro 2024 earlier this month, and it appears that the Merengues are interested in him. Although they believe a deal for Aymeric Laporte from Al Nassr will be difficult, Real Madrid has reportedly already had internal discussions about signing him, according to The Athletic.
In an attempt to make the Spain team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the former Manchester City defender may be amenable to returning to Europe.
Real Madrid hold internal talks about Leny Yoro alternative
The Athletic reports that the club last week considered moving Al-Nassr defender Aymeric Laporte, but they do not view it as an easy task. According to their sources, he was hoping to return to Europe during the last transfer window, but his wage dispute prevented him from doing so.
His current annual salary is approximately €20 million. Although a transfer between Real Madrid and Al-Nassr would not be problematic, the total compensation package might. Due to Real Madrid’s salary structure, Laporte would probably need to reduce his earnings by half in order to be able to play at the Santiago Bernabeu.
