Numerous Real Madrid players have contracts that expire at the conclusion of the current campaign, including Marco Asensio. Numerous clubs are interested in signing the winger as a free agent, and he has been linked to leaving the Santiago Bernabeu.

Asensio, though, is eager to remain at Real Madrid, per a report from AS. The Spaniard does not want to leave the club and believes he is capable of contending for the starting position that he has lost this season.

Since his arrival in 2015, Asensio has been a member of the team’s roster and has been considered for the first squad following a season-long loan with Espanyol. Asensio was once seen as the Merengues’ bright future, but a devastating injury put a stop to his development. Since his return, the 26-year-old has struggled to live up to expectations and has progressively lost his spot in the team.

When talks for a new deal fell through last summer, the winger was highly speculated to be leaving. The forward did not, however, quit since he was unable to locate a project that was ideal for him.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, Asensio initially struggled to get into games this season. The winger rose to prominence only before the World Cup break, but his work for Spain as a false-nine has given him more credibility. Asensio has previously been associated with teams like Juventus, AC Milan, and Manchester United, and his status is also reportedly being watched by Real Madrid’s bitter rivals Barcelona.

However, given the current situation, it appears that Asensio wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu. Additionally, he has the next six months to persuade Real Madrid to offer him a new deal.
