Alphonso Davies of Canada is apparently going to sign a contract with Real Madrid this year or in 2025, eliminating the interest of other teams, including Bayern Munich, in his talents. The Athletic reports that following a series of discussions, including an in-person meeting in Madrid, between Davies’ camp and Real Madrid’s top scout Juni Calafat and director general Jose Angel Sanchez, the Spanish club and Davies have verbally agreed.
Either this summer, Real Madrid will attempt to sign Davies for a transfer fee that is less than the going rate, or they will wait until his contract expires in 2025 and sign him for free. However, they have not yet begun talks with Bayern.
Real Madrid’s plan in the left-back position
An update on Real Madrid’s summer transfer ambitions, specifically with regard to left-back positions, can be found in a recent story from Rodra P. Even though the European powerhouses and Bayern Munich were unable to come to a consensus over Davies’ worth, it seems the latter are still ready to sign the player.
Davies’ Bayern Munich contract will expire at the end of the following season, it should be mentioned. Bayern was previously believed to be willing to take a chance on losing the defender for nothing by extending his contract with the team by one year. The team might be forced to let go of the Canadian this summer, though, following a hectic offseason in which they signed several players.
