Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov believes current Real Madrid striker and veteran French player Karim Benzema should win a Ballon d’Or.
And Dimitar Berbatov told Betfair: “It’s a shame, but I don’t see Karim Benzema winning the Ballon d’Or because he has too many very obvious contenders in that fight.
“For example, (Robert) Lewandowski, who is also a forward and is the man of the moment. But there are others like (Kylian) Mbappé, Neymar…
“I have always spoken phenomenally about Benzema because he seems to me a magnificent player, one of the footballers of the last decade at Real Madrid.
“But he has always been in the shadow of his teammates and especially Cristiano Ronaldo, who, of course, is capable of outshining anyone who stands by his side with his great games.”
A rather baffling and confusing claim by Dimitar as by his own admission in the aforementioned quotes, he claims there are players better than Karim but Benzema should win the award for the best nonetheless!
Benzema has of course been one of the best in the game for Real but the award for Ballon d’Or does not go to the almost best but rather to the best.
