Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, has informally asked the club to add a new fullback and a striker despite his firm position against doing so during the current January transfer window
The year has not gotten off to the finest of starts for Real Madrid. As if the club’s shocking loss to Villarreal in La Liga wasn’t demoralising enough, it was defeated 3-1 by FC Barcelona in the Supercopa Espana final.
Despite the fact that the Whites’ roster needs a complete rebuild, particularly in some parts of the pitch, the January transfer window was quiet for them as well. Given that they may have a busy transfer window in the summer, it appears the current Spanish champions are not in favour of spending big money in January.
Not to mention, Los Blancos may also need to deal with the contracts of a number of prominent players, like Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric, whose contracts are all set to expire at the end of the current campaign. Renewal of the contracts for the players indicated above could require more funding, which would weaken Real Madrid’s position in the market.
At the end of the season, the Spanish juggernauts are predicted to start looking for a new fullback and striker. The club’s lack of a solid replacement for right-back Dani Carvajal or even left-back Ferland Mendy in the fullback position is a huge problem.
Even Mendy’s future at Santiago Bernabeu is in doubt, which may only highlight the need for new fullbacks and a striker who can step in as Benzema’s long-term replacement.
