Real Madrid was inactive in this January transfer window.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti explains why the club made no signings in this transfer window.

They are currently five points behind league leaders Barcelona and also lost the final of the Spanish Super Cup.

The squad has struggled to perform at its best in recent games and fans expected some arrivals this January.

Premier League clubs spent a historic £815million in January whereas all La Liga clubs spent a total of just £33m.

This marks the lowest spending by the Spanish top flight in the last six years.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti didn’t want any additions in January and is preparing for the upcoming summer window.

‘We have not gone to the market because we did not need to,’ Ancelotti said during a press conference.

‘If you plan well and carry out your plan, it is not necessary to go into the winter market. If you have to, then it is because something has happened.

‘We have thought that it was not necessary to intervene in the winter market because the squad is fine.’
