Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Bournemouth’s rising star Dean Huijsen after agreeing to activate the defender’s £50 million release clause.
£50m Transfer: Dean Huijsen Set to Join Real Madrid from Bournemouth
The 20-year-old Spain international is expected to finalize personal terms with the La Liga giants in the coming days, turning down offers from several Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
Huijsen, who joined Bournemouth from Juventus in 2024 for £12.6 million, has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout young defenders.
He made 34 appearances this season, scoring three goals and earning his senior debut for Spain in March. His performances have drawn widespread praise, with many viewing him as a future star at the heart of any defense.
The transfer, set to be completed before next month’s FIFA Club World Cup, will be paid in three installments.
As part of the deal, Juventus will receive 10% of the fee, while Málaga, where Huijsen spent part of his youth career, will earn 5% as a training compensation.
Incoming Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has been instrumental in securing Huijsen’s commitment. Alonso reportedly contacted the defender directly, assuring him of a significant role in Madrid’s future plans.
Huijsen’s admiration for Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos and his upbringing in Spain further influenced his decision to return to the country where he grew up.
Despite strong interest from Premier League clubs, Huijsen prioritized his dream move to Real Madrid.
His former youth coach expressed concerns about potential limited playing time at the Bernabeu, given the presence of established defenders like Eder Militao, Antonio Rüdiger, and David Alaba.
However, Huijsen is determined to make his mark and contribute to Madrid’s success.
This signing marks Real Madrid’s second acquisition from the Premier League this summer, following the anticipated arrival of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
With Huijsen’s addition, Madrid continue to invest in young talent as they build for the future.
