Real Madrid had anticipated having a new left-back when the FIFA Club World Cup started, but it has been difficult to complete a deal for Alvaro Carreras of Benfica.
The 22-year-old has been eager to rejoin Real Madrid this summer, but negotiations over the payment of the €50 million ($57.5 million) release clause appear to have put a stop to the agreement.
Given that a portion of it will be owing to Manchester United, Benfica wants the entire amount paid at once, whereas Real Madrid has agreed to pay it in full but only in installments.
Now, according to Cadena SER, Real Madrid is beginning to explore elsewhere, and their search is returning to Bayer Leverkusen.
If there is no chance of a trade for Carreras, Alejandro Grimaldo, 29, is genuinely interested, and the Spaniard is reportedly eager to return to Spain.
Real Madrid Explore Alternative Left-Back Option
There have been several reports claiming an agreement has been reached; however, as of right now, that is not the case. Given that Manchester United, his former club, will receive a portion of the deal, Benfica has been requesting his €50 million release clause. Benfica has stated twice in public that no agreement has been reached, while Real Madrid has apparently agreed to pay that price, but only in installments.
It has made it possible for Alejandro Grimaldo to move, according to Cadena SER. The 29-year-old would be thrilled to join Real Madrid and is eager to return to Spain. Despite receiving offers from the Premier League, he has been focusing on returning to La Liga, where he would work with former Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso at the Santiago Bernabeu. If the Carreras deal doesn’t work out, he is sure Alonso will call.
