Former Chelsea and Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard has made an early prediction for football’s top individual prize, firmly stating he believes Kylian Mbappé will win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

For Mbappé to Win 2026 Ballon d’Or, Hazard Says Trophies Are Non-Negotiable

Speaking to French outlet Telefoot, the retired Belgian star expressed unwavering confidence in the current Real Madrid superstar.

Hazard outlined the likely path to the award, emphasizing team success as a crucial factor.

“He set the bar very high at the start of the season,” Hazard said.

“Could Mbappé win the Ballon d’Or? I think he will. He’ll need to win the Champions League, La Liga, and go deep in the World Cup.

But I have no doubts about him: the Ballon d’Or, he’ll get it.”

Hazard’s endorsement places significant expectation on the 27-year-old French captain, who has frequently been a contender but has never claimed the honour.

His best finish remains third place in 2021. This season, Mbappé continues to showcase phenomenal form, scoring 34 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid.

The 2026 award will heavily reflect performances in the upcoming World Cup, along with domestic and European campaigns.

Hazard, who achieved a highest Ballon d’Or ranking of 8th during his career, clearly sees Mbappé as the player poised to dominate this cycle.

While other stars like Erling Haaland and Lamine Yamal will also be in contention, Hazard has placed his early bet on Mbappé finally securing football’s most coveted individual accolade by guiding both club and country to major trophies in the next two years.
