Gareth Bale, a former Real Madrid forward, has declared his retirement from club and international football. He made his choice public on social media
Bale, the captain of Wales’ national football team, retires at age 33 after a successful career. Bale retires as the national team player with the most appearances and 44 goals, placing him third all-time in the nation’s scoring rankings. He may be their best player of all time. At Real Madrid, Bale won the UEFA Champions League five times. In 258 games with Los Blancos, he scored 106 goals.
Bale aided his country in qualifying for the European Championships in 2016 and 2020. In Qatar 2022, he guided them to their first World Cup appearance since 1958.
After making 45 appearances for the Saints, Bale moved to Tottenham and began his career there as a left-back. He did, however, flourish further forward as a winger in London, where he became well-known for mauling Inter Milan’s Maicon in the Champions League. In the San Siro, he scored three goals.
Bale scored 17 goals during his second stint at Spurs in 2022–2023, totaling 72 goals in 237 games. Before joining Real Madrid in 2013, Bale would grow in North London to become one of the best players in the world.
Bale retires after playing for Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). He only made two starts, but he still contributed to their MLS Cup victory by scoring an equaliser in the championship game to force penalties.
