FFF president has reassured French supporters that Mbappe’s tournament is not over just yet
The president of the French Football Federation has given an update on Mbappe’s injury. They have confirmed that Kylian Mbappe’s Euro 2024 tournament is not over.
The Frenchman broke his nose on Monday during his team’s opening game against Austria. He started and set up the only goal as Les Bleus secured a win with a 1-0 win.
Mbappe sustained a broken nose in the closing stages due to a collision with Kevin Danso when attempting a header from a set piece.
The FFF confirmed that the France captain has returned to team’s base camp and will receive treatment over the next few days. The Los Blancos man will be required to wear a protective mask now.
Austrian defender Danso also apologised for his accidental involvement in the incident and wrote on Twitter: “To French supporters: I am sorry that Kylian Mbappe was injured during our duel. I wish him a good recovery and I hope he can quickly find his place on the pitch.”
FFF president Philippe Diallo has since reassured French supporters that Mbappe’s tournament is not over just yet. He said during the press conference, “As you have seen, Kylian had this injury on the nose yesterday. The latest news is reassuring where there is no short-term operation needed, which was expected.
“Concerning his availability for the rest of the tournament, it’s a little early to give you a schedule and we will wait for the final verdict from the doctors’ tests this morning.
“Everyone came back a bit late last night so we will wait for later in the day to see how it evolves. But I will reiterate, the latest news is positive due to him not needing an operation. Him having his tournament taken away from him is not the case.”
