Young Real Madrid attacker Franco Mastantuono has pointed to new manager Alvaro Arbeloa as the key factor behind his recent resurgence in form.

Mastantuono: “Arbeloa’s Trust Lets Me Play With More Freedom”

The 18-year-old made these comments in an interview, emphasizing the trust shown by the fresh coaching staff since their arrival two weeks ago.

Mastantuono arrived from River Plate last summer for a significant fee and initially enjoyed a prominent role under former boss Xabi Alonso.

However, after the return of Jude Bellingham from injury and his own struggle with a sports hernia, the Argentine’s playing time and performances diminished.

In the final ten available games under Alonso, he started only once, in a Copa del Rey match against lower-tier opposition.

The situation has changed markedly since Arbeloa took charge. Mastantuono has featured in all four games under the new manager, earning three starts and one substitute appearance.

This renewed trust has translated directly to on-field contributions, with the teenager scoring goals against Albacete and AS Monaco during this period.

“In my view, Alvaro and his entire staff have placed great trust in me, which is fundamental for any player,” Mastantuono stated.

“They demonstrated that faith, and that is what is good for me. That is probably the reason I am now playing with a bit more freedom.”

While expressing clear gratitude for Arbeloa’s immediate impact, Mastantuono also acknowledged the role of his former coach. He remains thankful to Xabi Alonso and his staff for originally bringing him to the club.

The player concluded that Arbeloa’s methods are greatly benefiting the squad as they pursue their season’s objectives.
