Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is dreaming of a blockbuster signing that would send shockwaves through Spanish football, but club officials admit the operation is a near-impossible mission.
Figo 2.0? Real Madrid President Targets Another Shock Barcelona Capture
Journalist Roberto Gomez has confirmed on Radio Marca that the player at the top of Real Madrid’s wish list is none other than Barcelona’s midfield jewel, Pedri.
While the club has explored several options to reinforce their midfield—including Rodri Hernandez, Vitinha, and Kees Smit—the 23-year-old Spaniard remains the ultimate fantasy for the Bernabéu hierarchy.
“The player who Real Madrid and its president would like to sign is a midfielder… and his name is Pedri,” Gomez stated.
“But one thing is what you like and another is what you can do, because he won’t be able to sign.”
The interest stems from a long-standing vulnerability in the squad following Toni Kroos’ retirement at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Real Madrid have struggled to fill the creative void left by the German, and Perez views Pedri as the ideal long-term solution.
However, the path to signing the Barcelona number eight is blocked by an insurmountable obstacle.
Pedri’s contract at the Spotify Camp Nou contains a €1 billion release clause, and the Catalan club have shown absolutely no willingness to negotiate the departure of one of their most valuable assets.
Perez is reportedly hoping to replicate the infamous Luis Figo saga from July 2000, when he shocked the football world by signing the Portuguese captain from Barcelona.
But 26 years later, the context could not be more different. Unlike the Figo deal, which was facilitated by a release clause, Barcelona today have no financial or sporting incentive to sell their star midfielder.
While Real Madrid’s admiration for Pedri is genuine and confirmed, the reality remains harsh.
Unless a club is willing to trigger the astronomical €1 billion clause, the Spanish international will not be leaving Catalonia.
For now, the dream of seeing Pedri in white remains just that—a dream, with officials conceding that a transfer is virtually impossible.
