Karim Benzema Set For Lyon Return

Karim Benzema could return to his boyhood club, Lyon.

Real Madrid’s leading scorer, Benzema came through the Lyon ranks before switching to Los Blancos in 2009.

“Will Karim Benzema return to Lyon? Yes, I honestly think he will,” Djaziri told Inside Gones. “He talks to me constantly and he watches all of the team’s matches.

“On top of that, he has never been to the Groupama Stadium and in his mind it is something he wants, he has Lyon in his heart.”

Benzema won 4 Ligue 1 titles with Lyon in his 5 years with the senior side. In his 11 seasons now, he has won 4 Champions League trophies with Real and 3 La Liga titles amongst his 18 pieces of silverware.

He has racked up his tally to 15 goals this season, scoring a brace in the 4-1 win over Alaves on Saturday. Benzema is still Real’s best attacking outlet, helping them to the league title last season. He has scored 15 goals or more in 10 of his 11 seasons with Real now.

Benzema still has a contract with the Galacticos until June 2022. Zinedine Zidane still rates him highly and picks him over other striking options. Luka Jovic has been lent out to Eintracht Frankfurt and Mariano Diaz is close to sealing his exit too.
