Officially announced as the 2024–2025 Golden Boot winner is Kylian Mbappe, a forward for Real Madrid. The French forward earned 62 coefficient points and ended La Liga with 31 goals in 34 appearances during his debut season with Real Madrid.

As the top scorer in Europe across domestic competitions, Mbappé has won the prize because of UEFA’s weighted scoring system, which gives goals in Spain a higher value than goals in leagues with lower rankings.

Viktor Gyökeres of Sporting CP scored 39 goals in the Portuguese league, which was more than any other player, but his total was insufficient in the coefficient rankings because each goal was only worth 1.5 points.

On the other hand, each of Mbappé’s La Liga goals was worth two points. The Frenchman gained the advantage he needed to win the coveted Golden Boot as a result. Mbappe has never before won the Golden Boot in his career. This is Real Madrid’s seventh Golden Boot victory.

Mbappe wins European Golden Shoe for first time

In Liverpool’s final Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Mohamed Salah had to score a hat-trick to split the award with Mbappe. One goal was scored by the Egypt international in a 1-1 draw.

After Cristiano Ronaldo (2010–11, 2013–14, and 2014–15) and Hugo Sanchez (1989–90), Mbappe is only the third Real player to win the accolade. Due to Sporting’s league campaign ending the previous weekend, Gyokeres, who has been strongly linked to a summer transfer to Arsenal, had little opportunity to catch Mbappe.

The Sweden international concluded the season with 53 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions after scoring in his team’s 3-1 victory over Lisbon rivals Benfica in the Portuguese Cup final on Sunday. Mbappe (62 points), Gyokeres (58.5), Salah (58), Robert Lewandowski (54), and Harry Kane (52) were the top five players in the rankings.

Goals scored by players in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1—the top five leagues in Europe—are awarded two points. A goal is worth 1.5 points for teams that compete in leagues that are placed sixth to twenty-second in Uefa’s coefficient, such as the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
