Kylian Mbappe celebrated his 27th birthday by equaling a historic Cristiano Ronaldo record, scoring his 59th goal of 2025 for Real Madrid in a 2-0 win over Sevilla.

Mbappé hits 59th goal to tie Ronaldo’s Real Madrid year

The French striker calmly converted a late penalty to seal the victory and draw level with Ronaldo’s tally for the club in a single calendar year, set in 2013.

Mbappe honored his idol by immediately performing Ronaldo’s famous celebration and blowing a kiss to the Santiago Bernabéu crowd.

Jude Bellingham had earlier broken the deadlock for Xabi Alonso’s side, providing a crucial goal that lifted some pressure from the manager.

The result temporarily moves Real Madrid to within a point of league leaders Barcelona. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was also key to the clean sheet, making several important saves.

Sevilla’s challenge was hampered by a second-half red card for defender Marcao, while their manager, Matias Almeyda, was sent off during the halftime interval.

Elsewhere in La Liga, Osasuna secured a 3-0 win over Alaves with a late surge, while bottom club Levante snatched a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad thanks to a stoppage-time equalizer. Celta Vigo missed an opportunity to climb the table after a 0-0 draw with Oviedo.

In other European action, Juventus closed the gap at the top of Serie A to four points after a 2-1 victory over Roma.

Goals from Francisco Conceicao and Lois Openda secured the win, with Tommaso Baldanzi scoring a consolation for the visitors.

In Germany, Bayer Leverkusen climbed to third in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 comeback win at RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, a hat-trick from Wolfsburg’s Dzenan Pejcinovic was not enough as his side fell to a dramatic 4-3 defeat at home to Freiburg.
