Kylian Mbappe gets deadline to come to an agreement with Real Madrid

On Sunday, Kylian Mbappe, the captain of France, announced his decision to withdraw from the forthcoming Olympics in Paris. “My club has a very clear opinion regarding the Olympics; therefore, I believe I will not compete in them. It is the way it is, Mbappe said.

The 25-year-old, who was speaking prior to France’s opening Euro 2024 match against Austria on Monday, recently signed a free agent contract with Real Madrid and will play for the European champions for the upcoming campaign after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

The men’s football Olympic competition kicks off on July 24 and concludes on August 9 with the final. A week later, the Spanish league is scheduled to begin. On August 14, Madrid is scheduled to face Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup in Warsaw.

Though Mbappe had previously expressed a desire to be able to play for Thierry Henry’s French Olympic team, he acknowledged that “joining a new team in September would not be the best way to begin my adventure.”

“Best wishes to the France team. Of course, rather than participating in any of their games, I will watch them all as a spectator, and I hope they win the gold.”

Lionel Messi declined the chance to win the gold medal with Argentina twice this week by announcing he would not be competing in the Olympics.
