Marcelo Honoured To Be Named Captain Of Real Madrid

Marcelo was delighted to be named Real Madrid’s captain under the new administration.

The Brazilian took over the armband from Sergio Ramos, who obviously departed for PSG this summer on a free transfer.

“It is an honour and a very big responsibility to be the captain of the best club in the world,” Marcelo said.

“I feel fortunate. Just knowing that I play for Real Madrid makes me wake up extremely motivated every day.

“I am more excited with every season. I have been here for a long time, but my excitement has never changed; it is always increased.

“I am really looking forward to starting the season already.”

Whilst Los Blancos did not lift a trophy last season, Marcelo stated his complete belief that it will be a different story in the campaign ahead.

“We know that it is very difficult going a full season without winning a trophy, but we fought [our best] until the end of last season,” he noted.

“I am certain that we will win something. We are very happy, [the] players who are with their national teams and on holiday are still to come back, but we are very motivated for the season to start.”

“[Ancelotti] teaches us in every training session and he is always speaking,” Marcelo commented. “The truth is that it is a pleasure to work with him and his coaching staff again.”
