According to reports, Real Madrid is growing more certain that they will sign Ibrahima Konate, a defender for Liverpool, in the summer of 2026. After letting his Liverpool contract expire, Trent Alexander-Arnold made the contentious choice to join Real Madrid in the summer in order to take on a new challenge in Spain.
Alexander-Arnold was able to break his contract early to compete in the Club World Cup because Liverpool at least managed to get £10 million. The Reds would undoubtedly be eager to prevent a recurrence of that circumstance in the future, but they would have been upset to lose out on a sizable sum for one of Europe’s best full-backs.
Nonetheless, there seems to be a genuine chance that Konate would go under comparable circumstances after the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season. The defender is reportedly one of four center backs being considered by the Spanish powerhouses, and Real Madrid has made him one of their top targets for the next season.

According to sources, Madrid thinks they can get the Reds’ star on a free transfer, but the French center-back and his club are at odds over a contract.
Konate’s current contract expires on June 30, 2026, and negotiations to extend it have not resulted in a settlement. According to reports, if Konate reaches the last six months of his contract, any foreign team may formally contact him starting on January 1.
According to rumors, despite Madrid’s excitement, Konate has not yet expressed a desire to leave Liverpool or made a definitive choice over his future. Real Madrid is reportedly getting ready to speak with the French defender about a possible 2026 Bosman transfer.
