Marc Guéhi is reportedly being courted by Real Madrid in January as rumours about the Crystal Palace defender’s future grow. As the England international approaches the last few months of his contract at Selhurst Park, a number of European powerhouses are circling him, as negotiations for a new term are no longer an option.

Due to the ambiguity surrounding his next move, clubs are eager to take advantage of Guéhi’s predicament, which has become one of the most keenly watched transfer sagas ahead of the winter window. After joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021, the centre-back has been a vital member of the team and has become one of the Premier League’s most reliable and calm defenders.

But it looks like he’s running out of time in South London. Manager Oliver Glasner announced last week that Guéhi will not be signing a new deal, giving him the option to leave in January or as a free agent in the summer of next year.

Real Madrid preparing January swoop for Crystal Palace stalwart

Guehi has played a significant role in Crystal Palace’s ascent under manager Oliver Glasner, as the team won the FA Cup the previous season and the FA Community Shield this year. Over the past few years, the 25-year-old has shown to be one of the Premier League’s top centre backs because of his exceptional consistency.

On the day of the summer transfer deadline, Guehi was close to joining Liverpool, but the deal fell through because Palace was unable to find a substitute in time. Glasner recently stated that the defender has rejected a contract extension and would go when his current deal expires next summer.

However, Guehi will need to pick a side that will provide him consistent playing time because he is still a valuable player for England at the World Cup next year. However, if Los Blancos decide to pursue him in January, it will be intriguing to see if other teams will bid against them.
