Florian Wirtz - Real Madrid Midfielder Targets

A former Barcelona player has added considerable weight to the rumours that Real Madrid is seriously considering raiding Liverpool for Florian Wirtz in January, but sources have highlighted why the most recent wild theory is completely unfounded.

This summer, the Premier League champions paid a British record of £116 million to bring Wirtz to Anfield, blowing away teams like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The record lasted for just 73 days after Liverpool later acquired Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £125 million.

Although Premier League viewers at the time applauded Liverpool’s raid on Bayer Leverkusen for the Germany playmaker, some sour remarks appeared to have come from the Bayern Munich end after they were unable to close a deal.

Wirtz hasn’t exactly gotten off to a fast start at Anfield, though. Additionally, after helping Hugo Ektike score in the Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace on penalties, he has now gone nine games without scoring or providing an assist.

Surprisingly, a report released on Friday said that Real Madrid has been closely monitoring his development in anticipation of a possible 2026 rescue attempt. The former Barcelona and Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has now added credence to those rumours by asserting that Xabi Alonso is prepared to attempt to sign Wirtz on loan in January.

According to Petit, “Xabi Alonso respects Florian Wirtz as a player so much that he wants Real Madrid to keep an eye on him ahead of a possible loan in January,” BoyleSports reported. Numerous German players have also defended him, demonstrating that Alonso is aware of his talent.

In a recent press statement, Wirtz said he is not panicking. He is aware of his abilities and is confident that they will eventually be evident on the pitch.

The fact that Xabi Alonso, Wirtz’s current Real Madrid manager and mentor at Bayer, will be monitoring his former protégé’s development is understandable, but it does not imply that a January signing is being considered.
