Real Madrid is believed to be interested in acquiring a central defender before the upcoming campaign begins, and in recent months, a number of names have surfaced as possible candidates. For a variety of reasons, names including Ibrahima Konaté, Dayot Upamecano, and Marc Guéhi have been proposed and rejected.

A major target has also surfaced in relation to Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck, who is presently embroiled in a contract dispute with the Bundesliga team. Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur is the most recent addition to Real Madrid’s summer centre-back shortlist, according to El Chiringuito TV. Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid’s bitter rivals, attempted to sign the 27-year-old Argentine international last summer, but the deal fell through.

Romero’s recent remarks against his own club’s board, however, have raised concerns that he may not be entirely content at Tottenham and may look for a change of scenery in the summer. The trend has been noted by Real Madrid, who have had Romero on their radar for a while and are considering the 2022 World Cup champion as a summer target.

Real Madrid target Cristian Romero expected to leave Tottenham

Argentine writer Gaston Edul claims that Romero is at odds with the board of his club and will “leave” this summer (via Transfer News Live). Concerns over the hiring process and the board’s inaction in the face of an injury catastrophe are the root of his problems.

Romero has made 28 appearances this season in a variety of tournaments, with four assists and six goals. Although he joined the London club in the summer of 2022, he may be aiming to leave at the end of the current campaign.

Perez has several centre-backs in the Premier League on his want list besides the Argentine. According to reports, Madrid is once again interested in Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool, who will be a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Due to some dubious performances, Konaté is having a challenging campaign. When choosing between the two, the Spurs players need to be given priority.
