The attention is now moving from defense to midfield as Real Madrid prepares to make their next move in the trade market. Como midfielder Nico Paz will actually be the first acquisition to bolster the crucial region, according to recent AS rumors.
Previously a member of Real Madrid’s development teams, the 20-year-old midfielder enjoyed a stellar season in Italy and attracted the attention of Valdebebas’ decision-makers. He was sold to Como for €6 million last summer, but Real Madrid wisely included a buyback mechanism in the agreement and kept 50% of his rights.
The Spanish powerhouses can re-sign him this summer for just €8 million because of that clause. They may still bring him back in 2026 for €9 million or in 2027 for €10 million if they decide to wait. However, based on his performance, it appears that Madrid wants to act fast.
For Real Madrid’s first team in the 2023–24 season, Nico played eight games, demonstrating his ability to compete at the highest level.
Real Madrid to re-signing breakout star for 2025 club world cup
The news follows Como manager Cesc FÃ bregas’s statement regarding Paz’s future, which was made less than a week ago: “[Paz is] our player and for now he’s staying with us.” He must participate in the upcoming season, which will culminate in the [2026] World Cup. I am uncertain if he is yet prepared for Real Madrid.
Prior to the 2024–25 season, Paz signed a four-year contract with Como after failing to make an impression on Real Madrid’s first squad. In his first season with the Italian team, the 20-year-old made 35 appearances, contributing nine assists and six goals.
Paz’s breakthrough season earned him the title of Best U23 Player in Serie A. Despite his desire to keep the Argentine on his squad, FÃ bregas will be helpless against Real Madrid if the Spanish powerhouses decide to repurchase Paz in the upcoming weeks. The buyback clause of the club is actually in effect until 2027.
Paz would be a great addition to Real Madrid’s midfield, particularly now that Luka Modrić has left. Jude Bellingham, who will miss the start of the 2025–26 season due to shoulder surgery this summer, may also be able to get by with the support of the young talent.
