The prosecution disagreed with Raúl Asensio’s (22, Real Madrid) assertion of innocence. He is facing allegations of sexual offense and might be sentenced to jail.

On the 2nd, media confirmed that Asensio was charged by the Spanish prosecutors with sharing pornographic photos of minors and was asked to serve a 2-year and 6-month jail sentence.

The press reported, Two former Real Madrid youth players taped the video without consent and engaged in consenting sexual intercourse with a lady and a juvenile, according to a summary from the Spanish prosecution. Article 77 of the Spanish Penal Code states that Asensio is guilty of invasion of privacy, as he asked for the film and showed it to a friend.

The incident occurred on the 4th of June, 2023, at a club on Amadores Beach in southern Gran Canaria, Spain. Four soccer players, including Asensio, who were aged 20 to 21 at the time, spent time with three women. They were identified as Juan Rodríguez, Ferran Luis, and Andrés García, colleagues from the Real Madrid youth team.

The Spanish court denied Asensio’s appeal in February to have the accusations dropped. “I have never engaged in any activity that violates any woman’s sexual freedom,” he said in a statement after that. Even more so is the sexual freedom of kids. “I want to reiterate that these pictures or videos were taken somewhere I wasn’t present,” he said. I barely momentarily saw a few photographs.

Asensio is still being prosecuted. According to the media, “The victims say that the incident is causing them to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).” Furthermore, Asensio has been ordered by the prosecution to pay 5,000 euros (about 8 million won) to each of the two victims. The other three guys, who are not him, have also been asked to serve prison terms.

However, Asensio’s off-field sexual offense incident has cast doubt on his future. His career might be severely hampered if the court sentences him to prison. He could still be able to play, though, if it finishes on probation, like his senior at Real Madrid, Karim Benzema.
