According to a report by journalist Rodry, Real Madrid is closely monitoring Mario Gila, their former defender. It should be mentioned that the Spanish club has kept an eye on his development even if they ultimately decided not to sign him during their current defensive injury crisis.
The Spanish center defender was sold by Real Madrid to Lazio for ā¬6 million in the summer of 2022. They made sure, though, that they would keep half of any future transfer fees and included provisions that would make it easier for him to return if needed.
However, it will not be simple to bring him back because a number of circumstances would need to come together for this to occur.
Initially, Gila has already been contacted by Madrid’s management, who have informed him that they are monitoring his progress and acknowledge his remarkable growth since departing the team.
Curiously, his market value has increased significantly since joining Lazio from Madrid, going from just ā¬500,000 to ā¬28 million, demonstrating how well he has adapted to Italian football.
Real Madrid take new stance on former defender
He is currently being followed by some of the biggest teams in Europe though, as a result of his impressive achievements. Juventus and Inter Milan have been closely monitoring him this season, watching his performances as they contemplate a formal approach.
Furthermore, a number of Premier League teams have shown interest in him and started talks to learn more about his contract status and possible transfer conditions.
His current contract with Lazio expires in 2027, so his future is still up in the air, but a transfer in the near future is not completely out of the question. Raul Acensio, a young defender who filled the void at the back, is helping Madrid, according to the source.
Gila may therefore no longer be needed at Carlo Ancelotti’s court, allowing Lazio to focus calmly on extending his contract, which ends in 2027, without worrying about the Spanish powerhouses looming in the background.
The two sides are reportedly in constant communication, but since the management wants to keep all of the players’ attention on the field during this pivotal point in the season, formal talks are probably going to begin towards the end of the season.
