By buying Mariano Diaz during the active winter transfer window, Italian club Lazio hopes to hasten his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu

At the completion of the current season, Mariano Diaz’s Real Madrid contract will be up. Carlo Ancelotti does not rely on the unpopular striker, and according to Cadena SER, SS Lazio of Italy are interested in signing him this month.

In 2018, Mariano returned to Real Madrid following a successful season away at Olympique Lyon. When he returned to the Santiago Bernabeu, the 29-year-old was unable to display the same level of form, and he quickly dropped in the standings. With only 11 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid previous season, the striker has scarcely played under Carlo Ancelotti. In 2022–2023, he has played on the field just five occasions, totaling a meagre 25 minutes.

His contract with Real Madrid will not be renewed at the end of the current campaign, and Mariano appears certain to become a free agent in the summer. The Biancocelesti are vying for a top-four finish, and Maurizio Sarri’s team is searching for a new center-forward with star scorer Ciro Immobile out injured.

However, because of their limited resources, they are searching for affordable choices, which has brought them to Mariano Diaz. The striker has fewer than six months left on his contract with Real Madrid, thus according to the rumour, Lazio wants to sign him without paying a transfer price.

Los Blancos might be willing to authorise the 29-year-exit old’s this month even if they do not receive payment for his services given that he is not a part of Ancelotti’s plan. Only time will tell if this deal actually happens with less than two weeks left in the transfer window.
