According to reports, goalie Thibaut Courtois and Real Madrid have reached an agreement on a new deal that will keep him with the team until 2027. Since Courtois’ current contract is coming to an end, there was conjecture earlier this summer that Los Blancos may begin making plans for the future by acquiring Joan GarcÃa, who eventually traded Espanyol for Barcelona.
In spite of the speculation, Madrid has shown its dedication to Courtois by signing a new deal with the Belgian, which MARCA claims would last for two more seasons.
As Luka Modrić has shown in recent years, Madrid has a rule that players over 32 will only be offered a one-year extension, which is typically determined late into their last seasons.
Even though Courtois’s contract will only be extended by one year, Madrid is quite unique for having reached an agreement so early in the season, and it is regarded as a significant sign of their commitment to the Belgian.
Real Madrid reach agreement to renew veteran star
Based on Courtois’ participation in games, there was initial conjecture that the agreement would include an optional second year, tying him to the team until 2028. However, Real Madrid has stuck to their policy of only renewing seasoned players over 30 on an annual basis.
Players like Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez, who negotiated contract renewals in the last few months of their contracts last year, were spared the predicament because the arrangement was made far in advance.
It is evident that Real Madrid still believes in Courtois. The Merengues also turned off several bids to sign other elite goalkeepers during the previous campaign by obtaining the renewal early. Joan Garcia was once seen as a potential target for Real Madrid’s goalkeeping staff.
According to Xabi Alonso’s confirmation during the FIFA Club World Cup, Courtois is still Real Madrid’s indisputable starter, and there are no indications that this order will alter. As for Andriy Lunin, he will remain the backup.
