Zinedine Zidane has received the backing of Real Madrid great, Hugo Sanchez to stay on as Galacticos boss.
Real are going through a terrible run of form which might see them exit the Champions League next week.
Defeats in both La Liga and in Europe has brought Zidane’s position under fire. Even after winning the league title last season, Real have failed to uphold their lofty standards on the pitch.
Sanchez does believe it is not too late to turn things around. He has faith that Zidane will be able to get this team firing again and hence, need not be fired.
“No, I don’t think so yet; it would be very hasty right now,” Sanchez said on ESPN.
“You have to wait until after the remaining [Champions League group] game, which is complicated by being dependent on others. There will be a certain pressure, nervousness and obviously waiting for the result against Borussia Monchengladbach, too.”
“There have been serious criticisms of Zidane,” continued Sanchez. “He is bearing it stoically, but I note his nervousness because his players aren’t rising to the expectations placed upon Real Madrid players.”
Zidane has maintained that he will not resign from his position after past results. He clearly still thinks he is capable of getting over this hump and that is all that matters. Without any summer additions, it was always going to be difficult to improve results.
