Reece James of Chelsea is Real Madrid’s top target this summer as the La Liga champions get ready to make a sizable offer for the right-back
According to Football Insider, James is a long-term answer for Los Blancos’ right-back position at the Bernabeu, so they are prepared to spend a lot of money on him.
Although Graham Potter views the England international defender as an important member of his team and a potential club captain, Chelsea is said to be aware of the interest from Spain but is nonetheless confident that the defender will continue in West London.
James has spent his entire career at Stamford Bridge, and it would take a team with the legacy of Real Madrid to convince him to leave.
James extended his contract with Chelsea by six years in September, keeping him with the West London side through 2028. With that many years remaining on his contract, it would take a sizable offer for the Blues to even contemplate selling him; the bar would be set by Achrah Hakimi’s €68 million transfer to PSG.
It will be intriguing to see if James is pursued by Real Madrid in the summer, and even more so to see what kind of offer is made.
