Real Madrid monitoring Spurs' Romero as a Plan B for the summer transfer window

Real Madrid has acquired Tottenham’s best players on occasion over the years, having previously shelled out a lot of money for both Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. They now have their sights set on further Spurs players. Defender Cristian Romero is one among them, as per rumours from a month ago. According to a Spanish source, Madrid dispatched Juni Calafat, their head scout, to observe Romero and William Saliba, the defender for Arsenal, play in the North London Derby.

The Spanish giants regard Romero and Saliba as having enormous potential and feel they could fit into the Real Madrid project. The Frenchman prevailed, with Mikel Arteta’s team winning 1-0 on the day thanks to a goal from Gabriel in the second half.

Cristian Romero transfer stance amid Real Madrid interest

Whatever Real Madrid’s enthusiasm for Cristian Romero may be, Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly not interested in moving the player. Spurs appear to have other plans for Romero, 26, despite his alleged refusal to rule out a move to Madrid. In contrast to what he has claimed in his native country, the Argentina international’s contract is for the next two seasons and does not include a release clause.

Real Madrid has plenty of possibilities as well; William Saliba of Arsenal is in front of Romero in the Champions League holders’ hopes of adding a central defender this summer. Since they agreed to include a buyback clause when they made that low-cost deal, Rafa Marin, whom Madrid sold to Napoli last summer, is rumoured to be an additional alternative.
