Real Madrid’s pursuit of bolstering their defensive lineup has led them to monitor Liverpool’s center-back, Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool defender Konate becomes Real Madrid’s latest transfer target

This interest comes on the heels of their reported move for Reds’ right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is set to expire at the season’s end.

Konate, 25, has been a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s defense since his arrival from RB Leipzig in 2021. His current contract with the Merseyside club runs until 2026.

Despite the duration remaining on his contract, Liverpool has proactively offered him a new deal to secure his services for the long term.

In January, Konate acknowledged this offer but remained non-committal about his decision, stating, “I have been offered a new contract, but I am focusing on this season.”

The Frenchman’s performances have not only caught the eye of Real Madrid but also Paris Saint-Germain, indicating a growing interest from top European clubs.

However, reports suggest that Konate’s current contract does not contain a release clause, potentially giving Liverpool leverage in any transfer negotiations.

Real Madrid’s defensive concerns have been exacerbated by injuries to key players, prompting the club to explore options to reinforce their backline.

While they have shown interest in other defenders, Konate’s age, experience, and style of play align with Madrid’s strategic objectives.

Liverpool, under the guidance of manager Arne Slot, are keen to retain Konate, recognizing his importance to the team’s defensive stability.

The club’s proactive approach in offering a new contract underscores their commitment to keeping him at Anfield.

As the season progresses, the outcome of these contract negotiations will be pivotal in determining Konate’s future and whether Real Madrid will intensify their pursuit or explore alternative targets.
