Nacho Fernandez bids emotional farewell to Real Madrid

In an emotional farewell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Nacho Fernandez couldn’t hold back his tears as he said goodbye to Real Madrid after decades of dedication.

The 34-year-old defender, who lifted the Champions League trophy last month in his final act for Los Blancos, returned to the Bernabeu for a heartfelt send-off.

Standing before the 26 trophies he won during his 13 years in the first team, Nacho addressed a room filled with family, teammates, and club staff. He had already shed tears while watching a special video montage prepared by Madrid.

“It’s a difficult day, different, but emotional,” he began.

“You have given me more than I could ever give back. You have taught me to live life with determination.”

Nacho’s journey with Real Madrid began at the age of ten when he joined the youth ranks. Over the years, he became a valued member of the first team, known for his versatility and dependability. Despite not always being a starter, he surpassed 40 appearances in each of his final three seasons.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Nacho expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him. “Thank you, Real Madrid, for making me a man with perfect values,” he said.

“Thank you, [Carlo] Ancelotti, for believing in me. Thank you, teammates, you are the best. Thank you to all the club’s staff for making me a better player and person.”

Nacho’s six Champions League titles, starting with his first in 2013/14 and culminating in 2023/24, place him alongside Madrid legends like Paco Gento, Luka Modric, and Dani Carvajal.

As he embarks on a new chapter with Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League, Nacho leaves Real Madrid with a legacy of loyalty, hard work, and heartfelt gratitude.
