The 2025–2026 La Liga season began with Real Madrid at the top of their game. They have now won six straight games after defeating Levante 4-1 on Tuesday, the 23rd. This is only the fifth time in the competition’s history that the team has accomplished this accomplishment.

With their sixth straight victory, Xabi Alonso’s team maintained their perfect record, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice to reach seven league goals in six games. Franco Mastantuono also scored for the early league leaders, while Vinicius Junior opened the scoring with a spectacular finish.

Real Oviedo will host second-place Barcelona on Thursday; the Spanish champions are now five points behind Madrid. It was an excellent game. We had a strong defense from the beginning, and the first goal was crucial to boosting our confidence, said manager and former player Alonso.

Despite Vinicius’s displeasure at being substituted by Alonso during Saturday’s victory over Espanyol, the Brazilian winger started on the left side and performed admirably.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as La Liga leaders Real Madrid continued

In the 64th minute, Mbappe sent a ‘Panenka’ past Levante goalkeeper Mathew Ryan from the penalty spot to score his first goal. With a brilliant finish after being slid in by Arda Guler, he then increased his total to seven league goals this season.

Real had taken the lead earlier thanks to a fantastic effort from Vinicius Jr., who bent the ball into the net’s corner from a tight angle using the outside of his boot. The Brazilian striker then took the initiative to find Franco Mastantuono, who clinically blasted into the top corner after receiving a crossfield ball from the Brazilian.

The 18-year-old beat Vini Jr. to become Real Madrid’s fourth youngest La Liga scorer, and it was his first goal since joining the team in the summer. However, Mbappe’s rapid goals put an end to any chances of a comeback, as Xabi Alonso became only the second manager in the club’s history to win all six of his La Liga games.

In Saturday’s Madrid derby against Atletico, he will have the opportunity to pull equal with Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who won his first seven games in 2005. When Barcelona travels to Oviedo on Thursday, they have the opportunity to narrow Real Madrid’s advantage at the top.
