A Spanish report claims that Xabi Alonso would love for Real Madrid to sign Barcelona’s Pedri, and Pep Guardiola has made his decision regarding the departing Bayer Leverkusen manager.
According to Alonso, he will depart Bayer at the end of the current campaign. The former Madrid midfielder, who led the German team to the Bundesliga championship the previous season, will succeed Carlo Ancelotti as Los Blancos’ head coach after he departs the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite having one of the best teams in the world, Madrid’s problems have been revealed by their inability to go past the Champions League quarterfinals and their defeat by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. With four games left in the league table, Barcelona, Los Blancos’ fiercest rivals, has a four-point lead and might also win La Liga next.
A Spanish newspaper now sensationally claims that Alonso would love to sign one of Barcelona’s top players for Madrid. Alonso reportedly “would like Pedri to be at Real Madrid,” according to Defensa Central.
Xabi Alonso wants to sign world-class Barcelona midfielder
Barcelona extended Pedri’s contract with them until 2030 in January 2025. There is reportedly a €1 billion (about 1.5 trillion won) purchase clause.
Barcelona’s midfield is thought to be led by Pedri, a next-generation player. He has six goals and seven assists in his 55 official appearances so far this season. Alonso seems to think that the midfield needs to be strengthened immediately as La Liga begins next season.
Transfers of players from Barcelona to Real Madrid have happened. Luis Figo made a very contentious move in 2000, and Javier Saviola and Luis Milla both wore the Real Madrid uniform in 1990 and 2007, respectively. Bernd Schuster and Michael Laudrup also made their mark by moving from Barcelona to Real Madrid.
Second position in the league has already been earned by Leverkusen this season. When it came to future plans, Coach Alonso seemed to steer clear of concrete remarks. Real Madrid, his old team, is most likely to be his next stop.
