Real Madrid is reportedly preparing to part ways with veteran defender David Alaba this summer, as concerns mount over his high salary and recurring injuries.
High Salary, Injury Woes: Real Madrid Ready to Offload David Alaba
Alaba, who joined Los Blancos in 2021 on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, has been a key figure in the squad.
However, his tenure has been marred by injuries, including a recent meniscus tear in his left knee—the same knee where he suffered an ACL injury in December 2023.
This latest setback is expected to sideline him for six to eight weeks, casting doubt on his participation in upcoming fixtures, including the FIFA Club World Cup.
Financially, Alaba is among Real Madrid’s top earners, reportedly receiving €433,000 per week. With his contract running until 2026, the club faces a significant financial commitment.
To alleviate this, Real Madrid has set a modest asking price of €5–6 million for Alaba, making him an attractive option for clubs, particularly those in the Saudi Pro League, which have shown interest.
Despite the club’s stance, Alaba has expressed a desire to remain in Madrid.
In a statement, he said, “I feel very comfortable in Madrid. I like Real Madrid, and I have very clear goals. My thoughts are not anywhere else.”
Real Madrid’s potential decision to move on from Alaba aligns with a broader strategy to rejuvenate the squad and manage the wage bill effectively.
The club is reportedly eyeing younger defensive talents to bolster their backline, ensuring long-term stability and competitiveness.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Alaba’s future at the Santiago Bernabéu remains uncertain.
While his contributions to the club are undeniable, the combination of injury woes and financial considerations may lead to a parting of ways
