Real Madrid working on contract extension to tie Eder Militao to the club until 2028

Real Madrid reportedly open to selling Eder Militao

Real Madrid are poised to offload Brazilian centre-back Eder Militao this summer, reports suggest.

Militao’s potential departure follows a challenging season marred by a serious knee injury, which sidelined him for over seven months after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in August. Since his return in late March, he has only managed to start five matches.

Antonio Rudiger’s stellar performances have cemented his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s defense, while Nacho Fernandez has admirably stepped up following David Alaba’s own ACL injury in December.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Madrid’s management has been particularly impressed with Aurelien Tchouameni’s versatility, using him as a temporary centre-back.

Tchouameni’s adaptability has become a key asset, especially with speculation surrounding the club’s attacking options.

Madrid are also keen to retain forward Rodrygo, who has hinted at a possible future exit from the Bernabeu. Although he later clarified that his comments were taken out of context, the club seems determined to secure his future amid rumors of Kylian Mbappe’s arrival, which could limit Rodrygo’s playing time.

The club’s strategy appears to be shifting, with plans to use Tchouameni more regularly in defense. This move would allow midfielders Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde to adopt more defensive roles, especially with Toni Kroos nearing retirement.

Tchouameni has already proven his worth in defense, notably in high-stakes matches such as the thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City and the dramatic 3-2 victory over Barcelona.

However, he will miss the European final against Borussia Dortmund due to injury.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Militao’s future at Real Madrid looks increasingly uncertain, marking a significant shift in the club’s defensive lineup.
