According to rumours that surfaced earlier today, Real Madrid may be considering center defender Riccardo Calafiori of Bologna, Italy, as a potential replacement for Leny Yoro. Real Madrid needs a new center defender because Rafa Marin and Nacho Fernandez are both departing, and Yoro is their top choice. However, things have not gone as planned in the talks with his club, Lille.
Following his impressive performances at the UEFA Euro 2024, Calafiori, a 22-year-old center-half, was therefore hailed as an alternative. Before the summer transfer window opens, the Merengues will be searching high and low for a center back. The 22-year-old Bologna defender is still a target for them, though.
Real Madrid now not interested in Bologna defender
The Daily Briefing claims that Real Madrid is currently not interested in signing Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori. Actually, Los Blancos only want to sign Leny Yoro from Lille and aren’t evaluating any other options for the center defense position.
Given that he is a left-footed center back with the ability to play left defense, Calafiori would have been a viable choice. Real Madrid currently has no plans to sign the 22-year-old, whose market worth is estimated to be €30 million. The current European and Spanish champions, nevertheless, seem to be focused entirely on Yoro as a player.
Hopefully, the club will sign the 18-year-old within the next two weeks, around the start of pre-season, even though things may not be as far along as being reported.
