Real Madrid midfielder Camavinga pulls out of France squad

The midfielder received his third yellow card of the season during Real Madrid’s 3-0 loss to Arsenal; thus, he will miss the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal next week. To get to the semi-final, the Gunners were the superior team in north London and crushed the La Liga heavyweights. Before Mikel Merino added a third, Declan Rice scored two incredible free kicks, the first of his senior career.

Concerns about potential sanctions for the return leg in Spain next week were present for both Arsenal and Real Madrid going into Tuesday night’s match. With two yellow cards each, Gabriel Martinelli, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber were all treading carefully for the Gunners, while six Madrid players were on the verge of suspension.

Camavinga was sent off for a challenge on Bukayo Saka and then given a second yellow card during stoppage time, which was unfortunate for Carlo Ancelotti. The France international will therefore be unable to attend the return match at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.

Camavinga Faces Champions League Suspension

Mikel Arteta will not be suspended for Arsenal’s second leg because all three of his players, who were given two yellow cards, remained in control. The UEFA Champions League website states that the yellow cards do not carry over past this point, which is even better news.

However, Luka Modric, Antonio Rüdiger, Lucas Vázquez, and attackers Vinícius Júnior and Endrick, who did not play a single minute, all avoided receiving yellow cards that would have prevented them from playing in the rematch. Aurelien Tchouaméni will return after serving a suspension for the first match, according to coach Ancelotti.

The Spanish manager of Arsenal FC, Mikel Arteta, will have all of his important players available, including winger Gabriel Martinelli, vital midfielder Declan Rice, and defender Jurriën Timber, who were all on yellow card alert.
