Real Madrid’s quest for a dependable center-back, which had begun after the Brazilian’s prior knee operation, has been rekindled by Eder Militao’s critical injury. Although club president Florentino Pérez is hesitant to make a major investment until at least next summer, it is clearly evident that the team must turn to the winter market to make up for Militao’s prolonged absence.
Players like Aymeric Laporte and Castello Lukeba have been touted by the La Liga winners as possible targets for the center-back position. While Lukeba will fetch a far higher sum, Al Nassr is unlikely to reduce their €15–20 million asking price for Laporte, thus neither signing will be easy. Due to the circumstances, Real Madrid has reportedly considered Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera a potential substitute in the January transfer window to bolster the center of the backline, according to SPORT.
Real Madrid Decides January Transfer Target
The 20-year-old was reportedly considered by the Merengues last summer as well, but nothing significant happened. But it appears that they have made the decision to revive interest in the center-back who helped Spain win gold at the Olympics this year. Mosquera’s contract with Valencia was extended in May of this year and currently expires in 2026.
His release clause increased from €25 million to €80 million as a result. However, Mosquera might be available for less money, and despite his lackluster performances this season, Real Madrid thinks the 20-year-old has potential and can succeed at the Bernabeu. As Real Madrid searches the market for defensive additions, it is unclear if this will result in anything or if Mosquera will just be another name that the rumor mill churns out.
