Real Madrid to make surprise move for Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi in January

According to reports, Real Madrid rejected the offer to sign Jonathan Tah, a center-back for Bayer Leverkusen. This summer marks the 29-year-old’s contract with the defending Bundesliga winners coming to an end, and he has already expressed his desire to pursue new opportunities. “I’m uncomfortable in Leverkusen; therefore, I didn’t want to go. The exact opposite. “I will always love this club,” Tah declared in September 2024.

“I’ve always thought that since football careers are brief, I should make the most of them and carry all of the knowledge with me. And after our incredibly successful season the previous summer, I simply felt that it was time to do something different.”

Barcelona has been regularly linked to the 35-cap Germany international, but Bayern Munich was once in the race to sign Tah. Although a pre-contract agreement can be negotiated, a deal has not yet been finalized.

Real Madrid turned down a chance to sign Barcelona target

However, there are still concerns about signing a central defender this summer. Initially, they intended to look for a defender in 2026, with Saliba being their top pick. The Athletic claims that they are not ruling out bringing in an experienced player as well, but only if they can do it at a fair price.

Jonathan Tah, who has chosen not to extend his contract with the team and will be free at the conclusion of the season, is one player that meets that description. According to their source, Tah was first rejected by Real Madrid a few months ago, but he is now once more a possibility.

Naturally, this parallels rumors that Tah’s transfer to Barcelona is about to fall apart. The German international had reached an agreement with the Blaugrana, but this week they told his agent, Pini Zahavi, that they are now unable to sign Tah due to their salary cap. As of right now, he is considering alternative choices, and it appears like Barcelona has until May to make a change before Tah moves on.
