It has been confirmed that Real Madrid, who has won the trophy four times, will take on the Egyptian team Al Ahly on February 8 in the Club World Cup semifinals

The Spanish team, along with Copa Libertadores champion Flamengo, automatically qualified for the tournament’s final four as the Champions League winners.

They were aware a month ago that if they wanted to avoid a potential matchup with the Brazilian team in the championship game, they would need to defeat Al Ahly, Seattle Sounders, or Auckland City. Now they are aware that the Egyptian team will stand in their way.

Al Ahly easily defeated Auckland City 3-0 in the start of 2023 before defeating Seattle Sounders 1-0 on Saturday. Although the MLS team had more opportunities than their opponents, they failed to take advantage of them, and they paid the price when Mohamed Magdy Afsha scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

On the other side of the draw, Al Hilal defeated Wydad AC in a shootout following a 1-1 draw, setting up a matchup with Flamengo.

Real Madrid is the only team left in the competition to have won it before, having done so four times, more than any other club. Flamengo, though, have come close, falling to Liverpool in the 2019 championship game by a score of 1-0.
