Toni Kroos, a midfielder for Real Madrid, is reportedly close to signing a new one-year contract that will keep him with the team into 2024
The 33-year-old, who turned down an extension from the European Champions last summer, is one of numerous Madrid stars who are currently in the final few months of their contracts.
Many members of the Los Blancos fanbase would have been concerned about losing Kroos after he earlier made a suggestion that he would retire at the conclusion of the current campaign.
As a result of his continued performance for Carlo Ancelotti, who remains a major fan of the midfielder, Kroos is now expected to stay for a further 12 months. Kroos has had a trophy-laden time in the Spanish capital since joining Santiago Bernabeu from Bayern Munich in 2014; he has won a total of 19 major awards during this time.
When Real Madrid plays Osasuna in the Copa del Rey championship game later this month, Kroos will have the chance to claim the lone trophy he has yet to win while playing for Madrid.
While Kroos and Madrid are unlikely to win consecutive La Liga championships, winning the Champions League is still very much a possibility. Los Blancos defeated Chelsea 2-0 last Wednesday, putting them one step closer to the semifinals of Europe’s top club competition.
