Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to Anfield is one of the biggest storylines ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Liverpool in the Champions League.

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold Feature When Real Madrid Visit Liverpool?

The former Reds star is set to face his boyhood club for the first time since leaving for Spain last summer — but his involvement remains uncertain.

The 27-year-old right back has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury during Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Marseille on September 16.

Although he has fully recovered and received medical clearance ahead of El Clasico on October 26, he is yet to make an appearance since then.

Alexander-Arnold has been on the bench for Madrid’s last two games but has not come off it.

With Dani Carvajal sidelined through injury, manager Xabi Alonso faces a crucial decision ahead of the trip to Anfield.

Federico Valverde is expected to start at right back, but Alexander-Arnold could feature as a substitute if the situation allows.

A short cameo appearance against his former club seems likely if he continues to show progress in training.

Speaking ahead of his emotional return, Alexander-Arnold admitted he feels “mixed emotions” about facing Liverpool.

“When the draw was announced, I think everyone kind of knew it was going to happen. It was destined,” he told Amazon Prime Video.

He added that he exchanged messages with his former teammates Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah after the draw, joking about the reunion.

The England international made 23 goals and 92 assists during his nine seasons with Liverpool, winning every major trophy available.

Despite the potentially hostile reception awaiting him, Alexander-Arnold insists his affection for Liverpool will never fade.

“Whichever way I’m received, I’ll always love the club and be grateful for everything we achieved together,” he said.

Whether he starts or comes off the bench, all eyes will be on Alexander-Arnold as he steps back onto the Anfield turf in Real Madrid colors.
