Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has publicly dismissed criticism aimed at star forward Kylian Mbappe following Los Blancos’ 2-1 comeback win against Mallorca on Saturday.

Despite maintaining a perfect start to the La Liga season, post-match discussions focused on Mbappe’s lack of official goals after having two strikes ruled out for offside.

Alonso expressed unwavering confidence in the French international, emphasizing that Mbappe’s overall contribution mattered more than the disallowed goals.

“The fact that he didn’t score does not worry me at all,” stated Alonso.

“He had several chances, and his attitude was very good. He was just a few millimeters out of position and lacked a bit of accuracy in the final moment. I’m sure he’ll get there again”.

The match saw Real Madrid concede their first goal of the season when Vedat Muriqi capitalized on a corner to give Mallorca an early lead.

However, quick responses from Arda Guler and Vinícius Júnior within a minute turned the game around before halftime.

Mbappe’s disallowed goals and a third ruled-out effort for handball by Güler added to the tension, but defensive resilience secured the three points.

Alonso highlighted Mbappe’s work rate and threat on the field, noting that minor issues like offside positioning can be corrected.

He praised the forward’s pressing and overall impact, signaling that the team’s system values more than just goals.

The manager’s comments reinforce his broader message that even top performers like Mbappe must contribute defensively to earn their place.

With this win, Real Madrid sit atop La Liga with nine points from three matches.

The team now heads into the international break before facing Real Sociedad, with Alonso’s leadership and Mbappe’s determined mindset fueling their title ambitions.
