Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has talked about the possibility of Karim Benzema returning for the high voltage derby against Atletico Madrid.
“We hope he can be with us, but we have to wait and see because he still hasn’t trained with the team,” Zidane said.
“We’ll assess the situation tomorrow. He’s OK. Karim’s injury is much better and we’ll take a look at him.”
As for Real, they crashed to yet another draw. It was Vinicius who came off the bench to score the goal and rescue a point for the Galacticos.
“I’m pleased he got the goal,” Zidane said.
“We picked up a point and now we have to move on. It’s the result of his hard work and effort. That’s what we all have to keep doing.”
Zizou went on to say Real deserved more than a point despite playing poor.
He said, “We deserved a lot more, particularly when you look at the chances we created. We didn’t put them away, especially in the first half and that could have changed the complexion of the game. They had one chance and scored. That’s the way things go in football. We’ve had games where we won when we perhaps didn’t deserve to.
“This doesn’t change anything. I think the we’re in good shape, that’s now five wins and a draw and we must remember that there’s still a long way to go.
“All of the teams drop points over the course of the season. We know that we have to keep putting points on the board. We’ve also dropped points and will be trying to keep picking up the points. It’s the last time I’ll say it, but there’s still a long way to go.”
Zidane also said: “I don’t know if it was our best performance because you always say that it’s better when you win. We certainly put in a good performance tonight, I don’t know if it was our best performance as we’ve dropped two points. I’m annoyed given the effort that the players have put in, but we can be happy with how we’re performing. We’ve got to keep going, there’s a long way to go. We were really dominant tonight.”
