Zidane Optimistic About Real Madrid's Title Hopes

Zinedine Zidane is aware of fan expectations and the growing pressure on him.

Real Madrid won the match against Getafe to cut Atletico Madrid’s lead to five but they still hold a two-game advantage.

Zidane said, “I don’t think that the Madrid fans believe that we won’t win LaLiga. They always believe that we can turn things around. That’s what we’ll try to do, even though it might be difficult. We believe in ourselves. There are a lot of games to go and it’s all still to play for.

“We’re just going about our business. There are 48 points to play for and we’re just going to keep focusing on ourselves. We have to fight, keep working hard and not look what anyone else is doing. Tonight’s was a good win, that’s now back-to-back wins and we all needed that.”

Karim Benzema was on target for the Galacticos in the 2-0 win. He said, “It was a good goal and a fine cross from Vini, I attacked it and put it into the back of the net. I’m going to keep working hard to help my teammates. We came into the game with a lot of confidence and belief. We came here to win, which is always really tough against Getafe.

“This was a really important win and we’re just focussed on the league and what we do. We just have to keep on playing like this, as there’s still a long way to go.”

On the spirit inside the squad, Benzema added: “That’s football. Every match is like a cup final. You have to try not to drop any points and win every game. We’re professionals and we have a lot of faith in each other. Madrid is the best club in the world and there’s always a lot of things said about us.”
