Real Madrid faces Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening. Both teams need the win for different reasons.
Real Madrid Form
In terms of the domestic campaigns of the two teams, Real Madrid has had a pretty mediocre year. The 14-time UCL champions, who are currently 15 points behind league-leading Barcelona, have found it difficult to match their speed in La Liga. Real Madrid made up for it lately by destroying Camp Nou 4-0 to advance to the Copa del Rey finals, but their true worth will only be determined by how successfully they finish their European campaign.

Chelsea Form
Since the early 1990s, Chelsea’s campaign has been their poorest ever. After buying the team from former owner Roman Abramovich for a record fee, the new owners also had a forgettable inaugural season. Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s new co-owner, has invested huge sums of money, yet despite this, the Blues are stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League standings. Following a disastrous period at the West London club, Graham Potter was fired last week, and Frank Lampard was brought in as an interim replacement.

Here are our Real Madrid vs Chelsea predictions of the team formations and starting 11 lineups for the UCL 2023 match today.
Real Madrid team formation (4-3-3)
As a result of scrapes and bruises, Real Madrid manager Ancelotti was also without a few key players for the weekend. Vinicius Junior, Toni Kroos, and Ferland Mendy were all sidelined due to muscular overload.
Mendy won’t be making his comeback this week, but Kroos and Vinicius should be fine following their precautionary absences, so Asensio’s reward for his recent goal-scoring prowess should be a bench promotion.
In contrast, Fernandez’s goal at the weekend might cause Ancelotti some second-guessing, but as it was in the win last week, Eduardo Camavinga’s fresh legs could be used at left-back.
Chelsea team formation (4-3-3)
Ben Chilwell’s straight red card for a last-man foul on Rodrygo forced Chelsea to play the final 30 minutes of the first leg with just 10 players. The left-back will serve his punishment on Tuesday, which almost certainly means Marc Cucurella will get the nod at left-back.
With the hamstring injury he sustained at the Bernabeu, Kalidou Koulibaly will be sidelined for a “few weeks,” joining Armando Broja (knee), while Kai Havertz (knee), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (back), and Carney Chukwuemeka (knock) will all need to be evaluated over the next 48 hours.
With the second leg in mind, Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante were left out of the team to play Brighton. Reece James, Joao Felix, and Mateo Kovacic should also be called up. Noni Madueke, David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all ineligible.
Here are the predicted Real Madrid vs Chelsea starting lineups today.
Real Madrid starting lineup (XI): Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Camavinga; Modric, Valverde, Kroos; Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius Jr
Chelsea starting lineup (XI): Kepa; James, Fofana, Silva, Cucurella; E. Fernandez, Kante, Kovacic; Mudryk, Havertz, Felix
