Big blow to Madrid as David Alaba ruled out of entire season due to injury

Alaba will undergo surgery in the coming days and will face a recovery period of between 6-7 months.

Real Madrid faces a big blow ahead of crucial winter ties in La Liga and Supercopa de Espana. Los Blancos defender David Alaba tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Villarreal. He became the third Madrid player to suffer the devastating injury this term.

The Austrian started with Antonio Rudiger in the heart of the Real backline against Villarreal. The Los Blancos beat the Yellow Submarine 2-1 to take the top spot in La Liga table.

Nacho Fernandez came to replace Alaba. Real Madrid already took the lead through Jude Bellingham. Rodrygo doubled the advantage and secured three points.

While talking to the media, Ancelotti confirmed that Alaba had ruptured his ACL, which will rule him out for the rest of the season. Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao already sustained ACL injuries this season.

Ancelotti spoke to reporters in his post-game press conference, “Alaba has torn his ACL and it’s very sad news. This is the first time it happens to me, three of my players tearing their ACLs… it’s unbelievable.”

Real Madrid also confirmed that Alaba will undergo surgery in the coming days and will face a recovery period of between six and seven months. He may also miss the Euro 2024 campaign for Austria.
