BREAKING: Eden Hazard announces retirement from professional football

Hazard made 76 appearances in four years at Real Madrid, scoring seven goals and laying on 12 assists.

Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 32. The former Chelsea man surprised everyone by taking this decision.

The Belgian winger left Los Blancos at the end of the 2022/23 season and he got offers from various clubs but he did not join.

Hazard was one of the best players in the world during his time with Chelsea and also showed good numbers with Madrid. The 32-year-old has now taken to social media to announce his retirement from football.

He wrote on social media, “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.

He adds, “After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.

“I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates – thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.

“I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thank the RBFA for my Belgian Selection.

“A special thank you to my family, my friends, my advisors and the people who have been close to me in good times and bad.

“Finally, a huge thank you to you, my fans, who have followed me for all these years and for your encouragement everywhere I have played.

“Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experiences. See you off the field soon my friends.”

The Belgian star started his professional career with Lille in 2007. He later joined Chelsea in 2012 and made 352 appearances in all competitions. He scored 110 goals and made 92 assists for the Blues. He also won six major honours including two Premier League titles.

In 2019, Hazard went to Real Madrid for a then club-record fee of £130m. He made 76 appearances in four years at the Spanish club, scoring seven goals and laying on 12 assists. He also helped his country to finish third in 2018 World Cup.
